Hands down one of the best trips I have taken so far. From booking, to airport pick up, to hotels, to travels, and excursions, very well organized and professional.
I booked this trip through theclymb.com. Very detailed itinerary presented. After booking, I was contacted by a representative promptly whom provided any additional details needed. Our flight landed a day earlier than when the trip actually started. Esteban was excellent to provide information for airport transfers and an additional night at the hotel in Quito. Our tour guide was Daniel. I was blown away at the knowledge that this guy had. He knew it all, from history, to government, to horticulture. HIs background in biology and tourism was very evident. Daniel was very organized and ensured that we were well informed of the activities to transpire the next day and what clothing and items to bring. Throughout the bus transfers, Daniel filled us full of knowledge of each town that we passed and the history that built it. Not only was this man smart, he was a blast to have as a tour guide. It is evident of the passion for his job. He even gave us salsa dancing lessons and a personal concert at dinner! Our driver, Jose, was also a very valuable part of this trip. He safely navigated the bus through some curvy roads up the Andes mountains. Jose worked hard to prepare the most beautiful and delicious lunches to return to from our excursions. Jose ensured that our belongings were secure in the bus at all times. I personally watched him check that every single window was locked on the bus before even leaving it to simply go to the bathroom. Rolando and his family were amazing hosts for our night in the Amazon. Rolando was very entertaining on our canyoning trip. Also, the food was AMAZING at the homestead!!! Obviously, the people at Adventure Journeys help make this trip one of a kind! The hiking trips had fantastic views. They each were of different lengths, yet all equally challenging. Although very achievable for any active person. Biking was so much fun. Even though we received an abnormal amount of rainfall that day for the time of year, you still couldn't wipe the smile off of each of our faces. At the end of the day we were each drenched and covered in mud. I am very much and animal person, so the highlight was getting to see all of the livestock along the way. Some of our group even rode with a herd of llamas for a short period down the roadway. I was not sure what to expect for canyoning. I had never experienced anything like it before. It turned out to be one of my favorite experiences getting to traverse the waterfalls. Rafting was by far what I was most excited about. It did not disappoint! The local guides were great and provided us with a very detailed safety briefing. The rapids were strong, but were followed by periods of calm waters which we could swim and float down the river. All of the accommodations were phenomenal. Each one very different from the others. The homestead in the Amazon was the most enjoyable. Definitely not a 5 star hotel, but I can stay in those back home. We were drenched in the culture of the people while staying at the homestead. What is traveling if you don't truly experience the culture? The home cooking was top notch, and the entertainment at night was outstanding. The 300 year old hacienda was very unique and beautiful. Very picturesque! Again, I highly recommend Adventure Journeys. I look forward to booking either a Galapagos or Columbia tour in the future. Thank you Daniel and Jose for the awesome experience!!!
